Answer
A "theme" in Joomla! is a "look and feel" for your website. Also known as a "skin" or "template", themes allow you to completely change the look of your website without having to re-type anything. It is similar to a complete paint job for your car or, more accurately - rendering a brick home, painting it and adding a new deck on the side.
Re-theming your website can provide a completely different a fresh look with minimal effort and its a good thing to have that flexibility available.
